Cooper Kupp’s Time with Rams Nears End as Team Seeks Trade

Star receiver Cooper Kupp says the Rams are looking to trade him. While he doesn’t agree with the decision, he’s ready to keep playing. Where will he land next?

Cooper Kupp and the Rams Parting Ways?

It looks like Cooper Kupp’s days with the Los Angeles Rams are coming to an end.

On Monday, Kupp shared that the team told him they are “seeking a trade immediately” and will work with him to find a new team. He didn’t hold back his feelings about it, saying, “I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end” in L.A.

Fellow Rams receiver Puka Nacua had a lighthearted reaction to the news, adding some humor to an otherwise tough situation.

Rams Have Been Considering This Move for a While

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Rams had already explored trading Kupp during the season but decided to keep him at the time. Now, they seem ready to move on.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter pointed out that any team trading for Kupp will take on his hefty contract—$20 million in 2025 and $19.85 million in 2026—unless he agrees to a pay cut.

Kupp had already hinted that he wasn’t sure about his future with the Rams, but one thing is certain—he’s not retiring anytime soon.

“Do I want to play next year? Oh yeah,” Kupp told The Athletic’s Jordan Rodrigue last month. “There’s no doubt in my mind I want to play football. I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me. I definitely will be playing — I will be playing football next year. That much I know.”

Injuries and Performance

Kupp’s injury history might be part of the reason the Rams are moving on. In 2024, he played only 12 games—just like the previous season. He finished with 67 catches, 710 yards, and six touchdowns. In the Rams’ playoff loss to the Eagles, he had five catches for 61 yards.

Drafted in the third round back in 2017, Kupp became one of the league’s best receivers. He had a historic 2021 season, winning the receiving triple crown and being named NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He also helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI, earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

If Kupp can stay healthy, he could be a game-changer for a contending team in 2025. The big question now is: Where will he end up next?
