With the Miami Heat asking for less in a trade, the Golden State Warriors are once again interested in getting Jimmy Butler before the Feb. 6 deadline.
The Warriors are looking at Butler as a possible addition, as Miami explores trading their star player.
According to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports, the Warriors are “one of several teams back in the mix for Jimmy Butler now that the Heat have lowered their asking price.”
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst also reported that teams that initially thought they were out on Butler may now have a chance to land him. He noted that due to failed trade negotiations between Miami and Phoenix, Butler could now be acquired “at a cheap price” before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

Butler’s Tumultuous Season with the Heat
It’s been a rocky year for Butler in Miami. Earlier this month, he was suspended for seven games due to “multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team,” following public comments suggesting he wanted out.
After playing just three games following his return, Butler was suspended again for missing a team flight, and on Monday, he received an indefinite suspension after walking out of practice. Given this ongoing friction, it’s possible Butler has already played his final game for the Heat.
Statistically, Butler’s production has dipped slightly. He’s averaging 17.0 points per game, his lowest since 2013-14. However, he’s still making an impact, posting 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting a career-best 54.0% from the field.

Why the Warriors Make Sense for Butler
A trade for Butler could be exactly what the Warriors need to turn their season around. Currently sitting 11th in the Western Conference (22-23), Golden State is outside even the Play-In Tournament picture. However, they’re only 1.5 games out of 10th place, meaning a strong push could put them back in contention.
The Warriors are still led by championship veterans Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, but much of their supporting cast consists of young, developing players like Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Brandin Podziemski. Adding a battle-tested star like Butler—who has led Miami to two NBA Finals and averaged 24.7 points per game in four playoff runs with the Heat—could make the Warriors a serious playoff threat again.
Should Golden State Pull the Trigger?
With Miami lowering their trade demands, the Warriors might not have to give up a huge haul to land Butler. Given that Curry and Green are still in win-now mode, Golden State has little reason to transition into a rebuild. If Butler comes at the right price, making the move could be a no-brainer.
With just over a week until the trade deadline, the Warriors must decide: is Butler the missing piece to one last title push, or would acquiring him be too big a risk? The next few days will be crucial in determining Golden State’s path forward.
