Anthony Davis Assures Fans His Injury is Not Serious After Mavericks Debut

Anthony Davis reassures Mavericks fans that his injury is “nothing serious” after leaving his debut game. He remains confident in his recovery as Dallas navigates injuries in the frontcourt.

Anthony Davis worried Dallas Mavericks fans when he left his first game with the team against the Houston Rockets on Saturday due to a lower-body injury.

However, after the Mavericks won 116-105, Davis told reporters he felt “a little spasm” in his groin/quad area but said it was “nothing serious,” according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Davis also said he is “very confident” that he did not suffer a setback from the abdominal injury he had while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, per Stein.

He left the game in the third quarter after going down with a non-contact injury. Before exiting, he had an impressive performance, scoring 26 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, and adding seven assists and three blocks.

The 31-year-old was having a strong season with the Lakers before they traded him on Feb. 1. He averaged 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 42 games. The trade sent him to Dallas in exchange for Luka Dončić, a five-time All-NBA selection.

Before the trade, Davis was already out with an abdominal strain he suffered against the Philadelphia 76ers on Jan. 28.

Davis has been one of the best big men in the NBA for years. He is a nine-time All-Star, has made five All-NBA teams, and has been on the All-NBA Defensive Team five times. He was also selected for the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.

He won a college championship with Kentucky in 2012 before entering the NBA. Davis played seven seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans before requesting a trade that sent him to the Lakers.

With Los Angeles, he won a championship in 2020 and had a successful run before his time there ended.

Now in Dallas, he plays alongside Kyrie Irving.

The Mavericks are dealing with several injuries in their frontcourt. Second-year player Dereck Lively II is out with a right ankle stress fracture, and Dwight Powell is sidelined with a right hip strain.

Davis is now a key player for the team, especially after losing their previous top scorer in the trade. The Mavericks need him to stay healthy as they aim for success in this new chapter.
