76ers’ Joel Embiid Might Need Another Knee Surgery

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid said on Sunday that he might need another surgery on his left knee.

Embiid hurt his knee on January 30, 2024, against the Golden State Warriors. He had surgery a week later to fix a torn meniscus, but the pain and problems have continued.

On Sunday, Embiid played his 16th game of the season, scoring 27 points with 12 rebounds and six assists in a 135-127 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. It was his third game in six days, though he rested on Wednesday. He had previously missed 15 straight games due to his knee.

“Every day, take it day by day,” Embiid said after the game. “If it gets worse, then you’ve got to do something about it. If it’s not consistent enough, then that’s not good enough.”

Embiid, who turns 31 next month, hopes his knee will last through the season, but he admitted that surgery in the offseason might be needed.

“I think the straightforward answer is that when you’ve got something that’s inconsistent, at some point, you’ve got to do something about it,” Embiid said. “We don’t know what it is. We’re looking into every option.”

Despite his injury, Embiid has played well, averaging 24.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. However, missing so many games has hurt the 76ers, who have a 20-32 record and are 11th in the Eastern Conference.
