Jannik Sinner defends his Australian Open title with a straight-sets win over Alexander Zverev. Read about his strong performance and Zverev’s continued search for a Grand Slam.
Jannik Sinner has done it again! The 23-year-old defended his Australian Open title, beating Alexander Zverev in straight sets—6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3—in Sunday’s final.
Sinner has been unstoppable lately. Since the start of last season, he’s won 80 matches and lost only 6. That run includes three Grand Slam titles and a big win at the ATP Finals.

Sinner had some trouble in his semifinal match against Ben Shelton, cramping up a bit in the third set. But against Zverev in the final, he showed no signs of slowing down. He was powerful and consistent, making it nearly impossible for Zverev to gain any momentum.
Here’s how dominant Sinner was: he won 84% of his first serves, hit six aces, and didn’t give Zverev a single chance to break his serve. He also had 32 winners compared to Zverev’s 25, and Zverev made far more errors—45 compared to Sinner’s 27.
One of the key moments came late in the second set. Zverev was leading 6-5 and just two points away from breaking Sinner’s serve. But Sinner stayed calm, kept Zverev running all over the court, and finished the point with a perfect backhand down the line. After that, it was all Sinner.
In the third set, Sinner broke Zverev’s serve to go up 4-2, and from there, it was smooth sailing.
Zverev, who has now lost all three of his Grand Slam finals, was clearly disappointed.
“It sucks standing here next to this thing (trophy) and not being able to touch it, I’ll be honest,” he said during the post-match interview. “But congratulations to Jannik. You more than deserve it. You’re the best player in the world by far. I was hoping I could be more competitive today, but you’re just too good.”
Zverev is still chasing his first Grand Slam win. He’ll try again at the French Open, where he’s come close in the past.
