ATP Roundup: Carlos Alcaraz, Denis Shapovalov Claim Titles

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz battled past third seed Alex de Minaur 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to win the ABN AMRO Open on Sunday in Rotterdam.

The victory marks the World No. 3’s first title of the year and the 17th ATP singles trophy of his career.

Alcaraz dominated key moments, winning two-thirds of his first-serve points (34 of 51) and an impressive 64 percent of his second serves (16 of 25). He saved two of five break points while capitalizing on four of eight break opportunities.

The decisive third set remained level at 2-2 before Alcaraz broke de Minaur’s serve twice, in the sixth and eighth games, securing the win on his second match point.

Dallas Open – Texas, USA

Unseeded Denis Shapovalov upset No. 2 seed Casper Ruud 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the final to claim the Dallas Open title.

The Canadian earned his third career ATP singles title and his second in under four months, following his breakthrough win in Belgrade last November. This marks his first title at the ATP 500 level.

Shapovalov delivered a strong serving performance, blasting 13 aces with just two double faults. He won 36 of 50 first-serve points (72 percent).

In a tight first set, Shapovalov edged the tiebreaker 7-5 after winning three of the last four points. He then surged ahead 4-1 in the second set and held on to secure the victory.
