Denver will have its own NWSL team in 2026, the city’s first major women’s pro sports team. A new stadium and training facility are in the works.
Denver, Colorado, is getting its own team in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL)! The league announced on Thursday that a new women’s pro soccer team will start playing in 2026, making it the 16th team in the league.
Denver is the second new team added in this round of expansion, along with Boston, which will also begin playing in 2026. This will be Denver’s first women’s pro sports team in a major national league.
New Team, Big Plans
The team’s owner is Rob Cohen, CEO of IMA Financial Group. Cohen has been involved in bringing big sports events to Denver, including working on the 2034 Winter Olympics bid for Salt Lake City.
NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman said Denver is a perfect city for a team because of its passionate sports fans.
“We wanted our 16th team in a city with a strong sports culture, and Denver is the perfect match,” Berman said.
The team is also planning to build a brand-new stadium and training facility to create a great experience for both players and fans.
