Vikings Face Tough Decision on Cam Robinson’s Future

After stepping in for Christian Darrisaw, Cam Robinson helped the Vikings succeed in 2024. But with free agency approaching, will Minnesota let him walk?

What’s Next for Cam Robinson and the Vikings?

When the Minnesota Vikings lost star left tackle Christian Darrisaw to a season-ending knee injury in Week 8, fans feared the team’s hot start was in trouble.

The Vikings had won five straight to open the season but had just lost to the Lions in Week 7 when Darrisaw went down in a tough road loss to the Rams. At 5-2, the team needed a quick solution to keep their offensive line strong.

That’s when GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made a bold move, trading for tackle Cam Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Robinson started immediately in Week 9 against the Colts, and while his performance had ups and downs, the Vikings went on to win nine straight games after his arrival.

Robinson Likely Heading to Free Agency

Now, with Darrisaw recovering, Robinson is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March. CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani predicts Robinson could land with the Cleveland Browns, a team in need of offensive line help.

“The Browns need a new running back and wide receiver (and quarterback), but we can’t forget about the offensive line either… Robinson could be an option for the Browns if Minnesota allows him to leave, but price matters with the Browns’ cap situation being one of the worst in the league,” Dajani wrote.

The big question: Will the Vikings let Robinson go?

At a projected market value of three years, $42 million (via Spotrac), keeping Robinson might not be an option.

Did Robinson Do Enough to Stay?

Robinson deserves credit for stepping in mid-season and helping the Vikings finish one of the best regular seasons in franchise history. However, his performance wasn’t perfect.

He allowed the most total pressures (49), QB hurries (41), and penalties (5) among Vikings offensive linemen—despite playing just 11 games. His struggles were especially noticeable in the playoff loss to the Rams, where he allowed 12 pressures, 11 hurries, and a sack.

While Robinson had some strong years in Jacksonville, his play has dipped recently. Given Adofo-Mensah’s track record of finding good short-term deals in free agency, the Vikings might look for a temporary solution until Darrisaw is fully healthy.

What’s Next for Minnesota?

If Darrisaw needs more time to recover from his November knee surgery, Minnesota will need another solid option at left tackle. But at Robinson’s price, it’s hard to see the Vikings bringing him back.

Expect Adofo-Mensah to explore cheaper, short-term free agent options or even the draft to find a temporary fix.

Either way, Robinson played his part in the Vikings’ success—but his time in Minnesota might already be over.
