Texans Make Major Coaching Adjustments Following Tough Season
After their offense hit a snag in production during the 2024 season, the Houston Texans are making some serious personnel moves.
The team’s head coach DeMeco Ryans decided to part ways with offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and offensive line coach Chris Strausser.
It was quite clear that the steep drop off from the desired performance wasn’t a good sign for the Texans.
Things were great in 2023 due to rookie QB C.J. Stroud having over 4,100 yards and 23 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions.

The team expected to be competing against the best in the AFC, however, that did not transfer to reality.
Everything fell off the tracks in 2024. The offense couldn’t get on top of things and consequently struggled with passing and running, resulting in Stroud being one of the most sacked QBs in the league with 52, while he was pressured more than 28% of the time on his dropbacks.
Things did not go too well in the playoff match against the Kansas City Chiefs. Stroud was sacked eight times and some were due to poor blocking. Dalton Schultz, the tight end, was trying to block defenders on three of the sacks and they still got to Stroud.
The team also suffered poorly regarding injuries. Collins missed five games due to a hamstring injury, Stefon Diggs tore his ACL midway through the season, and Tank Dell hurt his knee towards the end of the season. Laremy Tunsil, one of the best-left tackles in the league wasn’t very effective this season and picked up a lot of penalties too.

All these problems in unison made some things glaringly obvious; something had to change. It wasn’t entirely Slowik and Strausser’s problems, but changes had to be made and Ryans decided to let go of them.
Currently, the Texans franchise is looking for a new offensive coordinator. It is a good job for the new candidate Stroud is in his third season with the franchise, and the team is full of youthful exuberance.
Coach Ryan is proving that he is prepared to make hard calls in an effort to improve the team. There is a small glimmer of hope for Texans fans. If the appropriate alterations are made, the rebuilding of this franchise could indeed allow for a much improved 2025 season.
