NFL Officials Say Conspiracy Theories Are “Ridiculous”

NFL referees respond to claims that they favored one team in the 2024 season, calling the rumors “insulting and preposterous.”

NFL Officials Say There’s No Favoritism Before Super Bowl LIX

With the Super Bowl coming up, NFL referees are speaking out against claims that they helped one team more than others this season.

Scott Green, head of the NFL Referees Association, strongly denied these rumors in a statement:

“It is insulting and preposterous to hear conspiracy theories that somehow 17 officiating crews consisting of 138 officials are colluding to assist one team.”

The referees also thanked NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for defending them and their hard work.

Goodell: “It’s a Ridiculous Theory”

Goodell shut down the idea that the league or referees favor any team.

“It reminds me of the script, that I write a script for the entire season… It’s a ridiculous theory, for anyone who might take it seriously,” he said.

Even though he denied the rumors, Goodell admitted that officiating can improve. He said the league might look into reviewing facemask penalties and possibly adding a rule for flopping. However, he doesn’t think flopping is a big issue right now.

“I’m proud of what they do, but that doesn’t mean we’re not trying to get better,” he said.

Referees Say They Do Their Best

Green also promised that referees always try to make the right calls.

“You can rest assured that on every single down, NFL Officials, both on the field and in the replay booth, are doing everything humanly possible to officiate every play correctly.”

As the Chiefs and Eagles prepare for Super Bowl LIX, the NFL wants to make one thing clear—its referees are doing their best to keep the game fair.
