Darren Mougey Named General Manager For The New York Jets

With Darren being acquired by the Jets, he shifts from Denver after a long 13 year stint with the Broncos. Does he and Coach ARM Aaron Glenn have what it takes to make the jets competitive?

The New York Jets have selected Darren Mougey as General Manager after his stint of 13 years with the Denver Broncos.

“Darren is a tested NFL executive and has worked with a big collection of football men, which is for sure, ‘connoisseur,”’ Jets Chairman Woody Johnson said in a team statement.

“He is a tremendous vision scout. Most importantly, he has a tremendous vision for this team. His work with Coach Glenn will change the course of this organization.”

This comes not long after the reports of Netherlands NFL stating the hiring of Aaron Glenn as the new head coach of the Jets which ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported first.

Background Of Mougey

Mougey, 39 years old, was signed by Atlanta Falcons in the offseason 2009 and went on to play with Arizona Cardinals during 2010. He then started working in the front office in 2012 as a scouting intern for the broncos.

He rose through the ranks in Denver, where he was named assistant general manager in 2022. While there, he was part of the organization that won Super Bowl 50 during the 2015 season.

New Challenge for the Jets

Mougey took the responsibility with the Jets after their disappointing 2024 season, which was their ninth consecutive losing season and the fifteenth non playoff year. They cleaned house last year by letting go of GM Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh.

One of Mougey’s first important tasks will be to make a determination regarding quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ future. He did show some signs of life late in the 2024 season, but at 41 years of age and having suffered a torn Achilles, he raises a lot of doubts regarding his ability to lead the team.

If Mougey lets Rodgers go, there is more than enough young talent to build around on the Jets. Defensive stars Sauce Gardner, Will McDonald IV and Quinnen Williams are helpful pieces, and Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall also excelled on the offensive side, despite the Jets’ turmoil at quarterback last season.

Progression

There is much work to be done for the Jets, but Mougey has a background working as a talent evaluator, which gives fans some optimism. His responsibility will be to construct the appropriate offseason strategies, leverage the team’s stronger core, and ultimately, put an end to the Jets’ unprecedented playoff dry spell.

As it is with any team, when Mougey is paired with Aaron Glenn the skepticism turns to hope and with that leads to a devoted fanbase.
