Thursday’s NBA Finals rematch between the Mavericks and Celtics will have a very different look from last June.
Just eight months after facing Boston in the Finals, Dallas made a shocking trade, acquiring Anthony Davis from the Lakers in exchange for Luka Doncic, the Western Conference Finals MVP. This means the last regular-season matchup between these teams will feel much different from their past five Finals games.
Davis joined the Mavericks on Sunday, Feb. 2, but he hasn’t played yet due to an abdominal strain he suffered on Tuesday, Jan. 28. His next chance to debut comes against a Celtics team he recently dominated while playing for the Lakers.

Is Anthony Davis Playing Tonight?
The Mavericks “remain hopeful” that Davis will play Thursday, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. However, he is officially listed as questionable for the game.
Davis has been out for eight days with his injury. When the Lakers first announced his timeline, they expected him to return within a week, making a Thursday comeback realistic.
Before traveling to Boston, the Mavericks practiced at Temple University in Philadelphia. Davis participated in a limited role, but the team shared footage of him getting shots up after practice.
