Joel Embiid Returns for 76ers After Missing 15 Games

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is set to play against the Dallas Mavericks after missing 15 games due to injuries. Coach Nick Nurse won’t limit his minutes, but his playing time will depend on how he feels.

Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid is back in action! After missing 15 games over the past month due to a foot sprain and knee swelling, Embiid will suit up against the visiting Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night.

So far, the 30-year-old has played just 13 games this season. He also missed the entire preseason and the first nine regular-season games—first due to left knee soreness, then a three-game suspension for shoving a reporter, and later a sinus fracture.

76ers head coach Nick Nurse isn’t putting a strict minutes limit on Embiid but said playing around 30 minutes would be realistic, depending on how the former MVP feels.

Embiid’s last game was on January 4, when he put up 28 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists in a 123-94 win over the Brooklyn Nets. So far this season, he’s averaging 24.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and one block per game in 13 starts.

Throughout his career, Embiid has been dominant, averaging 27.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game since making his NBA debut in 2016. The 76ers drafted him third overall in 2014, but injuries sidelined him for his first two seasons.

Philadelphia will be without Paul George (finger) and newly acquired guard Quentin Grimes. The other player involved in that trade, forward Caleb Martin, won’t play for Dallas yet, as the deal is still being processed.

The Mavericks will also be missing key players. P.J. Washington is out for personal reasons, and All-Star Anthony Davis is sidelined with an abdominal strain. However, guard Max Christie, who was part of the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers, will be available for Dallas.

All eyes will be on Embiid to see how he performs in his return and whether he can help the 76ers make a strong push for the playoffs.
