DeWanna Bonner Chooses Indiana Fever in Surprise Free Agency Move

Veteran All-Star DeWanna Bonner is reportedly signing with the Indiana Fever, bringing leadership and championship experience to a rising young team.

DeWanna Bonner Reportedly Joining Indiana Fever in a Shocking Move

In a move that caught many by surprise, six-time All-Star DeWanna Bonner is reportedly signing with the Indiana Fever, per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou

After spending the past five seasons with the Connecticut Sun, the 37-year-old veteran is bringing her championship experience to one of the WNBA’s most promising young teams.

A Perfect Fit for a Rising Team

Bonner isn’t just any free agent—she’s a two-time WNBA champion, a proven scorer, and a leader with 15 seasons of experience

She’ll be joining an Indiana squad that already has young stars like Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, adding veteran leadership to a team that’s quickly becoming one to watch.

For weeks, the buzz was that Bonner might return to the Phoenix Mercury, where she spent the first 10 years of her career and where her fiancée, Alyssa Thomas, now plays.

Instead, she’s heading to Indiana, where she’ll reunite with head coach Stephanie White, who recently left the Sun to take over the Fever.

What This Means for Connecticut

With Bonner’s exit, the Connecticut Sun are officially in a transition period. They’ve lost their entire starting lineup from 2024:

  • Alyssa Thomas and Ty Harris were traded to Phoenix
  • DiJonai Carrington is reportedly heading to Dallas
  • Brionna Jones is signing with Atlanta

With new head coach Rachid Meziane now leading the team, Connecticut could be looking at a rebuilding season in 2025.

Indiana Fever’s Offseason is Heating Up

For the Fever, though, this move caps off what’s already been an exciting offseason. They re-signed Kelsey Mitchell to a supermax deal, traded for Sophie Cunningham, and now, they’re adding one of the league’s most respected veterans.

With Bonner on board, Indiana isn’t just rebuilding—they’re gearing up to compete right now.

One thing is for sure: The Fever are going to be fun to watch this season.
