New Orleans Pelicans star Dejounte Murray suffers a torn Achilles, ending his season. Find out how this injury adds to a challenging year for the team.
New Orleans Pelicans star Dejounte Murray is done for the season after tearing his Achilles in Friday’s 118-116 loss to the Boston Celtics, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Murray seemed to get injured while chasing an offensive rebound after missing a shot in the first quarter. He started limping off the court and was helped back to the locker room before officials decided he couldn’t finish the game.

After the injury, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype mentioned that the Pelicans are planning a trade before the deadline to try to lower their luxury tax.
At 28, Murray, who was an All-Star in 2022, had been averaging 17.9 points, 7.6 assists, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game.
This season has been really rough for New Orleans with many players dealing with long-term injuries.

By Friday, the Pelicans had played 48 games, and only four players (Brandon Boston Jr., Yves Missi, Javonte Green, Jeremiah Robertson-Earl) had missed fewer than 10 games. Eight of their top nine scorers missed at least 13 games.
That group includes Brandon Ingram, who’s been out nearly two months with an ankle sprain, Zion Williamson, who missed 27 games with a hamstring strain, and defensive standout Herbert Jones, who is out indefinitely with a torn labrum.
It’s no surprise the team is struggling, as they now sit at 12-37 after the home loss to Boston.
New Orleans had big plans for this season. They won 49 games and made the playoffs last year, and adding Murray from the Atlanta Hawks had raised hopes for a deeper playoff run.
Sadly, everything that could go wrong seems to be happening in New Orleans, and now Murray’s serious injury has dealt the team another huge setback.
