Proposed Trade Could Land Red Sox a Right-Handed Slugger in Nolan Arenado

Could the Red Sox Land Nolan Arenado in This Proposed Trade?

The Boston Red Sox need a right-handed power hitter this offseason to make their roster more competitive. So far, they’ve struggled to find the right player. However, a proposed trade for St. Louis Cardinals’ third baseman Nolan Arenado could be the perfect answer—while also filling another key need.

The Trade Proposal

  • Red Sox receive: Nolan Arenado, No. 5 Cardinals prospect Jimmy Crooks, $16 million
  • Cardinals receive: No. 6 Red Sox prospect Miguel Bleis, No. 14 prospect Connelly Early, No. 31 prospect Justin Riemer

Why This Trade Makes Sense for the Red Sox

Arenado would immediately fill the need for a right-handed slugger. He hit .272/.325/.394 last season with 23 doubles and 16 home runs. Playing in Fenway Park, a righty-friendly hitter’s park, could help him boost those numbers even more.

The addition of catching prospect Jimmy Crooks would also help Boston. The Red Sox traded Kyle Teel to acquire Garrett Crochet, leaving Connor Wong as their only quality catcher. Bringing in Crooks would provide much-needed depth at the position.

Why This Trade Works for the Cardinals

For St. Louis, this trade would move Arenado’s contract while bringing in young talent to help their rebuild.

  • Miguel Bleis is a high-upside outfielder ranked No. 6 in the Red Sox system.
  • Connelly Early is a left-handed pitcher who could develop into a solid rotation piece.
  • Justin Riemer is a young infield prospect with potential.

By making this deal, the Cardinals could clear salary and invest in the future while allowing young talent to develop.

Would this trade work? Probably. The Red Sox get a much-needed right-handed power hitter and a future catching option. The Cardinals gain multiple prospects and move a large contract, helping their rebuild.

If Boston is serious about improving their lineup, they should pick up the phone and start negotiating with St. Louis.
