Bears Could Cut Ties With $24M Pro Bowler D’Andre Swift to Draft Ashton Jeanty

With the NFL Draft looming, the Bears may trade D’Andre Swift and move up for Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty—an explosive RB who could reshape Chicago’s offense.

The Chicago Bears are heading into the 2024 NFL Draft with a big decision to make—and it might involve shipping off a recently signed Pro Bowler.

After a lackluster season on the ground, despite handing D’Andre Swift a three-year, $24 million deal, Chicago may be eyeing a bold reset. According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, the Bears could trade Swift and two high picks to snag Boise State standout Ashton Jeanty early in the first round.

In Knox’s hypothetical scenario, the Bears would send Swift, the 10th overall pick, and the 72nd overall pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for pick No. 6—right where Jeanty could be waiting.

“While Chicago might have a chance of seeing Jeanty fall to No. 10, moving up to secure him would be logical,” Knox explained. “Moving ahead of the New York Jets—who might favor Jeanty over Breece Hall, who is on an expiring contract—might be particularly sensible.”

Let’s be real: the Bears’ run game was a sore spot last season, and Swift didn’t exactly live up to the hype. That’s why going all-in on a 21-year-old talent like Jeanty could make sense.

Jeanty absolutely torched college defenses last year, racking up 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns. That kind of production won’t fully translate to the NFL—but his potential to change a game with just one carry? That’s real.

Trading Swift wouldn’t even feel like a major risk at this point. It would give GM Ryan Poles a fresh weapon to build around—and leave him with two second-round picks (Nos. 39 and 41) to keep adding playmakers.

If Vegas bites on this trade, the Bears could walk out of draft night with a new offensive identity—and one less regrettable contract.
